It started with a song… well no it didn’t but there are a few songs that come to mind regarding this subject!  I’m writing this for a friend with regard to a recent conversation about bums.

They are called by many names, the bum, butt, arse, ass, heiny, buttocks, derriere – which sounds like a classy chassis! This list can go on but I think you get my point.  They can be prominent features on some, a true asset so to speak – as in the case of Jennifer Lopez or Kim Kardashian. “Junk in the Trunk” has become a popular phrase that denotes this feature on some.

Some like tiny bums, others prefer more “appreciative assets” however, everyone has one!  We sit on them, pinch them, smack them, cover them and clothe them.

They are the perfect place to receive shots as they are a large muscle mass known scientifically as the Gluteus Maximus.  Which is defined as: The largest and most superficial of the three gluteal muscles. It makes up a large portion of the shape and appearance of the buttocks.  It is a narrow and thick fleshy mass of a quadrilateral shape, and forms the prominence of the buttocks. Its large size is one of the most characteristic features of the muscular system in humans, connected as it is with the power of maintaining the trunk in the erect posture. Other primates have much flatter buttocks.

While I’m sure much more can be said of this prominent feature of the human anatomy, I will leave you with this thought…. Bums are appreciated all over the world, there are songs and stories, poems and such. I’ve written a brief one myself to mark this occasion.

Cheers to your Bum…

Some are large
And some are tiny
And yes there are those
So round and shiny

A place to sit
Or slap, or pinch
Oh sometimes I wish
Mine would lose an inch

We cover our bums
More often than not
To keep ourselves safe
From losing the lot

A masterpiece of flesh
Or so I’m told
Cheers to your Bum
A thing of beauty to behold

I also remember this from my childhood:

I see a heiny
It’s bright and shiny
If you don’t hide it
I’m gonna bite it!

A silly little poem that taunted many a child.

So I leave you with this song a classic by Queen… gotta love them no matter what!

Fat Bottomed Girls ~ Queen

A bit cheeky, yes but in the end…

It started with a song…

And ended with a smile!
