It started with a song… imagine. It is the end of Thanksgiving day in the United States. A day of family, friends, the beginning of the holidays; a time of peace. I thought I’d take some time to share some thoughts about a song I heard earlier in the day -Imagine by John Lennon.

Imagine – John Lennon

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

Every time I hear this song I think of the holidays and wish for peace. I know that technically it isn’t a Christmas Carol of sorts, but then again, how does one define a Christmas Carol? The simple definition is that it is a song about Christmas and/or music that is sung around the holidays. Certainly, Imagine may fit in there somewhere, as it is played more often between Christmas day and the New Year. Of course this all may be hope on my part!

World Peace

Hope for a world of peace. Imagine sharing the world with everyone as equals. Just imagine… a world without war, poverty, homelessness, hunger, greed, famine, killing, hatred. I imagine it is possible at least in my mind it is.

I’ve often wondered, if we could each reach out to one person, and they in turn reach out to another and so on… the world would surely become a better place. Pay it forward on a grand scale. Accept people as people, not by their religious affiliation, color of their skin, gender, size, looks, language. Surely, this could be a step in the right direction!  My granddad had a good thought on this… an avowed believer that all would be well if we treated people as equals, when all is said and done, “people are people”.  He certainly lived by this rule and was once arrested for giving his seat to an elderly black woman on a bus in the 1960’s.  His response when asked why he did this was just that, people are people.  Surely, we can all remember this!  I think it’s a sad statement that we have become a society ruled by politics and bad news, often forgetting this simple thought – “people are people”.

I recently read somewhere, “Happiness is not a destination, it is the journey.” While on our journey if we only remember that people are people, perhaps  we could envision a world of peace, and pay it forward. Surely happiness will be the end result.

I was not surprised at all to see Imagine being played by the man who pulled his piano with a bike to the scene of the bloodiest terrorist attack in Paris on the 13th of November. It was a fitting tribute as a prayer for peace in our world that we would all like to imagine.

I’ll leave you now with a promise that I will try to actively promote a more peaceful world. I hope that you will all join me to have peace in our time. If you dream it, and believe it, peace can happen… just imagine what a beautiful world it could be. I am grateful for the opportunity to speak my peace and hope you will just think about world peace. It is time.

It is with gratitude for the peacefulness of music and the tributes of the many artists who shared their worlds and thoughts of peace to help us imagine.  Please take some time to listen to the words of Imagine by John Lennon. A peaceful soul lost to us through violence much too soon. If only we could imagine a different world.

I’ve included a few other tributes for the victims of terror, I hope you will take some time to listen as well.  U2, Imagine Dragons… the list can go on. I am thankful for the opportunity to listen and share their pleas for peace.

It is with a hopeful heart that I bid you a fond farewell for now.

It started with a song … and ended with a smile!

I wish you peace!
