It started with a song… somehow it always does!  It seems like such a long time since I’ve posted anything about music or just anything at all! There truly is a good reason… you’ll see as the tale of my recent past reveals just what I’ve been up to lately!

Accidents Happen

A day after my last post… the 8th of July I suffered second degree burns on my hand.  Lesson learned  – do not try to pour a pot of boiling water to make tea while turning and speaking to someone.  You may miss the cup – (as I did) and pour it on your hand instead.  I knew I had done some real damage when my skin turned an awful red violet shade but there wasn’t much pain at all.  This was my first clue that something might just be a bit worse than I anticipated.  The second hint was the patches of white that appeared after the red subsided and tiny little blisters popped up.  Needless to say, my hand was treated and bandaged and has healed quite nicely since then.  Although, it made things quite difficult for some time with typing limited to my day job.  I spend upwards of 10 hours daily online in my work, typing.  Having an impaired hand made this torture for a few weeks, but, I did survive.

On the weekends I work overnight with the mentally ill (this is the wonderful job that helps to pay for my health insurance – Yay, for that!)  The job itself isn’t very trying or difficult unless things aren’t going well for some of the clients.  Needless to say, my bandaged hand seemed to become a magnet.  The clients were drawn to my hand like a moth to a flame.  On more than one occasion I could have screamed in pain from someone accidentally grabbing my hand for no apparent reason.  I soon learned to keep my hand tucked close to my chest to avoid anyone grasping or hitting it for any reason.  And yes, I survived this as well.

And, fortunately for me, I found this great skin treatment called “Bio Oil” it helps with scars, among other things.  If you ever have the need, try it!  I still have scarring but it isn’t as noticeable as it would normally be for me.  My skin is rather pale and  scars rather easily.  I have given serious though to bathing in Bio Oil!  But enough about the burn…

Klutzy

Phase two began a few weeks ago, I was walking on the brick pathway through a garden and managed to step on a large triangular stone and broke 3 toes.  If you have ever broken a toe, you know what I’ve been feeling lately! It was the 3 small toes on my left foot.  One can’t imagine how something so small can hurt so much!   They are getting better with time and someday soon I hope to be able to wear real shoes once more.  I just need to remember to watch where I’m walking.

ouch

Maintenance

In the midst of these two glorious accidents, I’ve had my maintenance drugs switched up a bit in order to keep those rogue cells in line.  Any change of chemo will generally send me into a tailspin health-wise, at least until I have become accustomed to them.  However, the good news in all of this is my remission is holding steady – the longest it has ever been!  I am beyond psyched about this – a miracle… reality, one day at a time.   Unfortunately, it seems one of the new drugs, or at least something has plagued me with nightmares.  The kind that stay with you.  Just what an insomniac needs… another reason not to sleep!

I’ve also been to 3 family weddings, 2 funerals, one college graduation, two christenings and a surprise birthday party.

A busy summer…. hence the hiatus from blogging!  I literally  had no time or the means to actually type for sometime other than for work!
